Happy New Year’s:

New Year’s Eve is a night to have fun and celebrate the coming year. However, safety is a must when participating in the festivities. Here are a few safety tips to ensure that you’re safe and sound when the clock strikes midnight ringing in the New Year.

  • New Year’s Eve don’t drink and drive. New Year’s Day is the 2nd most deadly day for drivers. Designate a Driver: Don’t Drink and Drive.
  • Be Alert: Be aware of your surroundings and how others are acting.
  • Stick together: This way you can look after each other.
  • Be careful around open flames. Whether you are burning candles are using a fire pit, always use caution around an open flame.
  • Pay extra attention to pets and children around open flame.
  • It is extremely important to practice proper safety precautions when using any type of firework.
  • Plan where you are going.
  • Have a fully charged cell phone.
  • Carry identification.

New Year’s Firework Safety:

• Never disassemble or try to make your own fireworks.
• Don’t point sparklers, or fireworks at yourself or others, especially while they’re being lit.
• Only light fireworks on the ground and in areas that are dry and fire resistant.
• Don’t attempt to light multiple devices at the same time.
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks or sparklers.
• Always keep a portable fire extinguisher close by. Also keep a water hose or buckets of water nearby to put out fires.
• Soak spent fireworks with water before placing them in an outdoor garbage can.
• Wear safety glasses whenever using fireworks.
• Fireworks should only be used outdoors.
• Do not use fireworks near a bonfire. Do not throw spent fireworks, or duds in bon fire they can still contain remnants of gunpowder.
