TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARRESTS

CRISP COUNTY- February 27, 2019

Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Harvey arrested Rodney Hernandez, a 24-year-old male, and Melinda Zamora, a 21-year-old female, both residents of Lansing, Michigan at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Harvey initiated a traffic stop on a black Hyundai Genesis traveling southbound on GA401/I75 around milepost 104 for speeding in excess of maximum limits.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy First Class Harvey detected the odor of suspected marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of suspected marijuana, 55 envelopes of suspected cannabis wax, containers and bags of suspected cannabis-infused Premier Extract Edibles, and $7,080 in cash. Wax is a highly concentrated form of marijuana derived from the cannabis plant.

Consequently, Zamora and Hernandez were placed under arrest and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center. Zamora faces the following charges: Possession of Marijuana less than 1 oz., Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, and Window Tint Violation. Hernandez faces charges of Possession of Marijuana less than 1 oz. and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute.
