One Arrested After Attempting to Elude

CRISP COUNTY- April 8, 2022

On Friday, April 8, 2022, around 3:40 P.M., Deputies arrested David Howard Jr., a 32-year-old male from Fort Myers, Florida. Howard is charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Peace Officer, Trafficking in Schedule II Narcotics, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, and numerous traffic violations. Additional charges are pending. Dooly County will also have charges for David Howard, Jr.

On Friday, April 8, 2022, around 2:30 P.M., a Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to check on a black Dodge Challenger that was stopped on the dirt portion of Rockhouse Road. The car sped off and got onto the interstate (I75/GA 401). The car exited GA401/I75 at exit 99 and began traveling east on HWY 300. Howard recklessly traveled at high rates of speed and into oncoming traffic down multiple roads within the city limits and throughout Crisp County. Howard also attempted to hit Deputies head-on. The pursuit continued into Dooly County.

A Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy deployed Stop Sticks on HWY 41 S near Lewis Mill Road in Dooly County. After striking the Stop Sticks, he continued south on HWY 41. Howard struck two vehicles while attempting to pass a motorist. One victim was transported to Crisp Regional Hospital by Dooly County EMS following the accident. Howard was also transported to Crisp Regional Hospital by Dooly County EMS to be checked out. Both are in stable condition.

Deputies recovered a bag, which contained many smaller bags of suspected fentanyl pills with a street value of approximately $300,000.00. Howard also possessed a large amount of cash. Dooly County Sheriff’s Office, Vienna Police Department, Cordele Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, and Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division assisted in the pursuit.
