One Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop

CRISP COUNTY, GA (March 18, 2024): On March 16, 2024, at approximately 10:20 P.M., a Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Honda Accord for improper registration on GA 401/I75 near mile marker 104 North. After running the tag, the Deputy determined the vehicle’s registration and listed driver’s license was suspended, there was no insurance, and the listed driver was also wanted.

As the Deputy Sheriff approached the vehicle and initiated contact with the driver, the individual abruptly fled the scene. The driver continued speeding, traveling in excess of 130 miles per hour, and operating the vehicle recklessly, ultimately striking another vehicle and losing control in Dooly County. The vehicle flipped multiple times and stopped against the guardrail on GA 401/I75 near mile marker 116 North. There were four occupants in the vehicle. Two of the occupants were juveniles. All four occupants were transported to Crisp Regional Hospital by Dooly County EMS. Georgia State Patrol is working on the accident.

The driver, identified as Whitney Jones, a 35-year-old female from Camilla, Georgia, was taken to the Crisp County Detention Center after being released from Crisp Regional Hospital. The two juveniles were released from Crisp Regional Hospital; however, the other passenger remains hospitalized.

Jones has two active warrants one from the Mitchel County Sheriff’s Office and another from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office for Felony Probation Violation. Jones’ criminal history includes five felony convictions.

Jones faces the following charges:

  • (2) Two Counts Cruelty to Children in 2nd Degree
  • Fleeing or Attempting to Elude
  • Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits
  • (2) Two Counts of Child Youth Restraint not used Properly in addition to multiple other traffic violations.
