TRAFFIC STOP FOR SPEEDING LEADS TO DRUGS, AND STOLEN MERCHANDISE FROM MULTIPLE STATES

CRISP COUNTY- October 27, 2017

Larry Wayne Shifflett 41 year old male, and Contessa Shifflett 41 year old female both residents of Lake City Florida were arrested on October 26, 2017 at approximately 2:10 P.M. Corporal Kenny Purvis imitated a traffic stop on a white Ford Fusion for excess speeding on GA 401.

During the traffic stop upon interview Corporal Purvis saw indication of criminal behavior. A search of the vehicle resulted in multiple pill bottles containing marijuana, alprazolam (Xanax), and acetaminophen/codeine 300(Tylenol #3), jewelry, designer sunglasses, laptops, tablets, cellphones, cameras, collectable coins, baseball cars, and designer watches.

Subsequently Larry and Contessa Shifflet were arrested and transported to Crisp County Detention Center. Larry Wayne Shifflet is charged with one count Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits, one count Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and one county Theft by Receiving Stolen Property from Another State. Contessa Shifflet is charged with one count Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, one county Theft by Receiving Stolen Property from Another State, and one count Possession of Marijuana less than 1 Oz.

Through further investigation from Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division some of the stolen property has already been identified by one of the victims in Wentzville, Missouri. This case remains under investigation as the CID continues to reach out to multiple agencies.
