TRAGIC WEEKEND
CRISP COUNTY- November 13, 2017
Friday, November 10, 2017 around 3:00 PM Crisp County Sheriff’s Office was advised that a Norfolk Southern Railroad train struck an individual on the tracks about two miles south of Cordele. Norfolk Southern Railroad employees locked the train down into emergency mode after the individual did not respond to bells or train whistles, however the train could not stop in time. While investigators were working the scene, officers with Cordele Police Department responded 412 East 27th Ave in reference to a missing male suffering from dementia. Investigators were able to determine that the man stuck was in fact Oscar Ford Jr. who had wandered from his residence at 412 East 27th Ave.
Sheriff Billy Hancock states, “This is a tragic accident and my thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
