Wanted Person Apprehended
On March 7, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a deputy patrolling the 400 block of 23rd Avenue West recognized a person he believed to be wanted. Sanchez Lucas, who had multiple outstanding warrants, was in the vicinity of the Learning Center at the 500 block of 22nd Avenue West, heading east toward the Holsey Cobb apartment complex.
When Lucas noticed the deputy approaching, he turned away and reached toward his waistband. The deputy quickly approached Lucas and placed his hands behind his back. Backup arrived to assist, and Lucas was placed in handcuffs.
A search was conducted of Lucas and his backpack. An individual bag of marijuana was found in the front pocket of his gray sweatshirt, and three additional bags of marijuana were discovered inside his backpack. A 28-round magazine loaded with ammunition and a 16-ounce bottle of Promethazine Hydrochloride Syrup, still containing fluid, were also found in his bag. A black .40 caliber handgun was located on the ground; it was recovered, the magazine was removed, and the round in the chamber was safely extracted.
Sanchez Lucas, an 18-year-old male from Cordele, Georgia, was taken to the Crisp County Detention Center.
Lucas had outstanding warrants for the following:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Pistol or Revolver by a Minor
- Discharge of Firearms on or Near a Public Highway or Street
- Discharge of Firearms on the Property of Another
- Criminal Trespass
- Reckless Conduct
Additionally, Lucas is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm During Commission of Crime
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute Within 1,000 Feet of a Housing Project
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute Near a Public Park
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute Near a Public School
- Possession of Dangerous Drugs
