Saturday, June 9, 2018 just before 4:00PM first responders were dispatched to Lake Blackshear to a male in distress after his kayak overturned. Bystanders were quick to offer assistance, but were unsuccessful.
DNR, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Crisp County Fire Rescue, Sumter County Fire Rescue Dive Team, and EMS responded and initiated a search.
Crisp County Sheriff’s Office and DNR continued recovery efforts well in to the night. Around 11:40PM recovery efforts were the suspended until Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 6:00AM.
Today there are multiple agencies working together for recovery. These agencies include: DNR, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Crisp County Fire Rescue, Sumter County Fire Rescue Dive Team, Lee County Dive Team, Crisp County EMS, and Georgia State Patrol Aviation.

Efforts continue for the recovery of Mark Lund 38-year-old male, resident of Albany, Georgia.
Georgia Body Recovery Team, and Georgia Piedmont Region Search and Rescue have joined in the recovery efforts each with a cadaver dog. Specialized and Certified Drivers with The Dive Shop joined Lee and Sumter County Fire Rescue Dive Teams.
Also around 6:00PM Sheriff Hancock was joined by Worth County Sheriff Don Whitaker and Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester. Sumter County Chief Deputy Eric Bryant is on scene today as well.
Sheriff Hancock greatly appreciates the outpour of assistance received from surrounding law enforcement agencies and first responders. Sheriff Hancock vows to continue search efforts with assisting agencies until Mr. Lund is located.

CRISP COUNTY- June 11, 2018
Recovery efforts concluded at 8:42AM Monday, June 11, 2018 with the recovery of Mark Lund 38-year-old male, resident of Albany, Georgia. Georgia State Patrol Aviation spotted the body approximately 100 yards from where the initial search began.
State and local agencies combined worked approximately 1,064 hours in search and recovery efforts.
“I appreciate the teamwork and dedication from all personnel involved. I would also like to thank the residents that offered their homes, boats, and assistance, they truly went above and beyond,” stated Sheriff Hancock.
