PRESS RELEASE

Crisp County Detention Center has had seven inmates complete 167 GED courses online.

Last month, Pay Tel Communications, Inc. provided multi-functioning tablets to those incarcerated in our detention center. These tablets ensure all incarcerated individuals have equal opportunities, bridging socio-economic gaps and creating a safer, calmer jail environment.

Detainees have the chance to complete educational courses, and in return, they earn free entertainment time that allows them to watch movies, listen to music, and play games.

Sheriff Hancock is excited to announce that within the first month, seven inmates have completed all 167 GED courses, totaling 748 hours of learning time. Two of these individuals are interested in taking the GED test. Sheriff Hancock stated, “We will work hard to help them better themselves. I will arrange for them to take the test.”

The tablets also offer educational courses and personal development programs, with the most popular course being "12 Steps to Recovery." This is promising, as it reflects the inmates' desire for assistance in rehabilitation and offers hope for their future.
