Subject Arrested for Theft by Deception
CRISP COUNTY- December 3, 2020
On December 1, 2020, at approximately 9:30 A.M., Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested Michiel Johnson, a 52-year-old male resident of Cordele, in the Walmart parking lot (1215 16th Ave East). Johnson was charged with Theft by Deception and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center without incident. This is an ongoing investigation, and further charges are pending. On December 1, 2020, an associate at Walmart notified Crisp County Sheriff’s Office that a subject was trying to use a fraudulent credit card to make a large purchase through their online ordering application. Johnson was taken into custody while he was picking up his order at Walmart. Investigators determined Johnson has purchased several thousand dollars of merchandise with stolen credit card numbers. Crisp County Sheriff’s Office has recovered most of the merchandise that was purchased. ###
